Needham Public Schools has a vibrant and robust Performing Arts Department. This position will be focused mainly on the six theatrical producations that the District produces each year. Previous techincal directing experience with students is preferred but not required.

Job Description
- Maintain working theatrical spaces at NHS, Newman, and Pollard to ensure safety and functionality across the schools; this position focuses only the theatrical lighting and sound components of the auditorium spaces
- Monitors and inventories the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, rigging equipment, and theatrical draperies/ curtains.
- Arranges for the repair and replacement of theatrical equipment with budgetary constraints as directed by the FPA Director.
- Performs preventive maintenance of equipment in the HS, Newman, and Pollard Auditoriums.
- Provide supervision of student actors and technical theater students during productions.
- At tech week rehearsals and performance for all school productions.
- Provides technical rehearsal notes to show Directors.
- Train and supervise students, Fine and Performing arts staff, in the safe and correct use of stage, lighting, and sound equipment.
- Execute the technical elements of light, sound, and rigging for all Performing Arts Department theatrical productions
- Coordinate with the Set Director regarding purchasing of materials and build days
Desired Skills:
- Proficient with console programming, LED and moving lights.
- Proficient with sound consoles.
- Stay current with technical theater trends and technology.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Moderate physical effort which may include frequent standing or walking, handling objects up to 50 lbs, occasional climbing, crawling or stooping, working at heights on ladders, catwalks and lifts, and the use of medium weight tools and materials.
- Capable of offering budget recommendations to the Director of FPA for upkeep of technical equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Love of theater and working with students.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- The ability to build a strong rapport with colleagues and serve as a collaborative team player.
- Commitment to equity and antiracist practices. Able to advance District work in these areas.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Theater preferred
- 2 + years experience preferred
- Experience working with middle and high school students
- OSHA certification
- Valid Driver's license and access to transportation
