The Needham Public Schools is seeking outstanding candidates to be Preschool Intensive Special Needs Teaching Assistants for the 2024 Extended School Year Program. The dates of the program are 7/1/24-8/8/24 and it will be held at the Newman Elementary School building. Working hours are 8:45am-2:15pm, Monday-Thursday.

Job Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the BCBA and Preschool Director, the Teaching Assistant will work closely with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives, social-emotional goals and objectives, and maintain appropriate student behavior. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

-Support students with intensive special needs under the supervision of and training by BCBA

-Many of our students learn through the foundations of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) thus familiarity and/or interest in ABA and working with young students with intensive special needs is required

-Assist students with special education needs in all aspects of the classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement of IEP objectives

-Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce skills and implement assigned lessons and programs

-Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance

-Assist with classroom behavior management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task 

-Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising lunch, recess, arrival or dismissal duty

-Any additional tasks assigned by the BCBA, Classroom Teacher, or Preschool Director

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

-Experience and/or interest in working with preschoolers with intensive special needs

-Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions

-Ability to make decisions at the moment to ensure the safety of all students

-Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs

-Ability to work collaboratively with multiple team members

-Ability to maintain confidential information regarding students and families

-Effective written and verbal communication skills

-Familiarity and/or interest in the foundations of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

 

Qualifications: 

-Prior experience with students with special needs

-Interest in working with preschoolers with intensive special needs
